-National expert within the European Commission’s working group on the impact of Marine Litter, conducting laboratory activities for the analysis of macro and microplastics.

Responsible for a line of activity in the PNRR-Marine Ecosystem Restoration project focusing on the removal and disposal of abandoned or lost fishing and aquaculture gear at sea, known as “ghost nets.”

SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY

Her expertise focus is on marine waters and the protection of marine habitats linked to the implementation of Directives, initially Directive 2000/60/EC and subsequently Directive 2008/56/EC – Marine Strategy Framework Directive. In recent years, she has been involved in the Marine Strategy, supporting the Ministry of Environment, participating as an expert in both national working groups and technical working groups established by the European Commission and the United Nations Environment Programme/Mediterranean Action Plan (UNEP/MAP) for the Barcelona Convention regarding the protection of marine habitats. Additionally, in support of the Ministry, she contributes in specific working groups as an expert on ballast water issues, the introduction of non-indigenous species from ships, and the loss of biodiversity associated with their invasiveness. In 2019, she participated in the Antarctic campaign of the British Antarctic Survey (BAS).
